Day 1 ~ Mountains to Big Sky

Everyone had a great first day! Ev landed at BWI safely which was a HUGE relief for Dan and I. Here is a photo of him and his buddies at SeaTac smiling from ear to ear.

Ev called us that evening declaring that it was “The Best Day Of His Life!” Again, music to our ears! They had a few quick stops in D.C. before heading to Williamsburg for the night. We asked him to take some pictures of the places that he visits. He sent us these last night of the Washington Monument and the White House. 🙂

Dan, Chewy and I had an early start as well. Here is Chew Chew enjoying his perch in the backseat.

For the first time we drove across the entire state of Washington. I’ve always loved crossing the Cascades. The landscape opens up on the other side allowing you to see for miles in all directions. Here are a few pictures of the Columbia River Gorge from a scenic overlook.

We had big plans to stop in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho for lunch but the weather washed out our plans so we continued on the White Pine Scenic Byway taking in the magnificent views.

So far, Montana has been our favorite. It was STUNNING from one end to the other! The highway ran along swollen rolling rivers that were so crystal clear you could see straight to the bottom. We crossed the Continental Divide at nearly 7,000 feet above sea-level which was breathtaking. Each turn lead to another magnificent panoramic view. We watched a storm roll around to the south of us that made its way up from Yellowstone.

We stayed the night in Bozeman, MT which was a super cute historical town filled with restaurants, cafes and entertainment. Montana State University is there so there was a lively nightlife.

It may be a little bit difficult to see you but I tried to capture this gentleman below riding his motorcycle that had deer antlers attached to the front!

We met several people from L.A. at our hotel. Apparently Bozeman is a popular place to decompress. It was a fabulous first day of adventures for the entire family.
