“The Best Place on Earth!”

Grandma and Grandpa’s beach house is our home away from home. Evan calls Bethany Beach “The Best Place on Earth!”

Every Summer that we’ve come to Bethany, Evan has had a “bucket list” of things that he has to do before he leaves. We will literally be walking into Grandma and Grandpa’s front door and Ev will be asking when we can go down to the rides in Ocean City, MD. This summer he had the chance to go down there once with Grandpa and a second time on his annual “Guy’s Day” with Grandpa and Uncle Gene. Guys day is when they leave early afternoon for pizza and rides and come back at midnight! Here is Ev on one of his favorites!

With Evan running track this year and having the school play, he had to take a short break from golf therefore golf camp at Bear Trap was timely. Evan attended two camps this summer, one at the end of June and one in July. The first camp was a huge group. There was a contest on the last day of camp. If you sunk a 50 foot putt you won $50 from one of the coaches. Ev struggles more with his short game than anything else so he was freaking out when he won the contest! The second week of camp had a smaller group. His friend Gemma, whom Ev met last summer, attended both weeks as well which gave them more time to get to know each other. In the weeks that followed camp they were able to get out on the course together to play a few rounds. This was big news in the clubhouse! Evan is growing up so fast.

On July 25th, Chewy turned 1 years old!

We had a few sweet girls helping us keep him groomed in the hot heat this summer. Melt my ♥!

Aunt Patty and Patrick came down for a visit and we had an exciting day at the beach. If we weren’t spotting dolphins we were spotting whales! This is the first summer that we have seen whales at Bethany.

We have loved starting our days drinking coffee on Grandma and Grandpa’s back deck which overlooks their pond and three beautiful fountains. Chewy greeted everyone who walked, jogged or strolled by each morning. His favorite place was sitting on the back deck in the sun watching the blue herons and eggrets swooping in for mealtime. Chewy also enjoyed escaping the deck as his little body fit through the slats.

When Ev was a little guy, the pool in G and G’s neighborhood was his favorite place to play. It has a lazy river, water slides and you can order French fries right to your pool chair. Most days it’s a traffic jam of kiddos going round and round. As he’s gotten older the ocean has become his oasis. He now enjoys swimming laps in the “adult” pool where it is more “quiet.”

Dan continued to fly back and forth to the East Coast this summer to spend time with us. He flew in one weekend and there was a big storm. We decided to head down to the beach to watch it. There is a restaurant in one of the hotels that sits on the beach called 99 Sea Level. We ordered a few glasses of wine, lunch and sat on their deck watching the wind, rain and waves. If you ever have the chance to watch a storm brew over the ocean you must take it.

During our last week, we drove down to Ocean City to have dinner at Mickey Finn’s which sits on a marina where you can watch fishing charters come in after a day on the water. It’s a pretty location to watch the sunset. We enjoyed walking the docks looking at all of the names of the boats.

From long neighborhood bike rides to crabbing, surfing and swimming in the ocean, the beach is Evan’s happiest place!
