All Star Game to Remember

We’ve been enjoying our summer so much that we’ve gotten behind on some of our blog posts! Playing catch up today.

Through a relationship that Dan has with MLB, he was offered tickets to see the All-Star Game at Nationals Stadium in Washington, D.C. So we brushed the sand off of our flip flops and packed up for an overnight stay.

Dan and I haven’t been back to D.C. together since our last Marymount College reunion which was when Evan was still a little guy. We were excited to have some time in the city where we met and spent some of our most fun and memorable years together before getting married.

We checked into our hotel and took a stroll to the White House for a quick photo before Dan’s meeting.

Below is a picture of Dan and Ev in front of The Department of Treasury and then of course us in front of The White House.

Thirty seconds after this picture was taken, the skies opened up, an enormous thunderstorm rolled through and dumped rain on the city for two hours. We made our way into a White House gift shop where we spent a ridiculous amount of time hoping that the storm would pass.

Several of the hotels in the city, playing host to the MLB community, were wrapped in All-Star decor. The lobby where Dan’s meeting was held had flags adorned with all of the players pictures hanging from the ceiling, pop-up banners with team logos creating meeting spaces for agents and reps and there were people everywhere!

The MLB rep that gave Dan tickets also gave him tickets to the Pre Game Party at the U.S. Naval Yard which sits on the Potomac River in walking distance to the stadium. There was live music, games for kids, food, drinks and an American flag wall of donuts!

The Naval Yard is part of the National Museum of the U.S. Navy. We took some time to walk through and read about the origination of the U.S. Navy through to present day. It documented the Navy’s storied history and every major military campaign in U.S. history. We highly recommend a visit if you are in town. Below are some pictures of Evan enjoying the Museum’s displays.

After the party, hundreds of us made our way along the Potomac’s boardwalk to the stadium.

Below are a few pictures of us enjoying the game! It was a really fun night and unique in that we were able to cheer on both our Yankees and our Mariners. The American League won 8-6! The game had a record setting 10 home runs!
