Surfing and Sunsets!

One of our favorite restaurants at the beach is Touch of Italy. There are two locations with totally different personalities. There is the location in Lewes where you can see the bar, the dessert case and the wine “cellar” from any table. It’s super small and cozy and it’s absolutely one of our favorites. There is also a location in Rehoboth that is larger, louder but has the longest case of cured meats, desserts and fresh made pastas and sauces. You literally want to grocery shop here for the next month of dinners. It’s popular and for good reason. The food is fabulous! One of the big jokes between Dan and I when we go out to dinner is that I almost always ask them to seat us at a different table. We always seem to be sat near heavy foot traffic, by the swinging door leading to the kitchen or facing a wall when there’s a beautiful view. Our night at Touch of Italy was no different. They moved us once at request (it was the loudest section of the restaurant and the smallest table) and a second time because they sat us at the wrong table. Seven people and 21 chairs later we sat down for dinner. This sparked the phrase, “No soup for you!” which seemed apropos as Grandpa and Evan have been enjoying nightly Seinfeld marathons. On our way home from dinner, we stopped at one of the many little beaches that pepper Rehoboth Bay to capture some sunset pictures.

Speaking of sunsets, Dan and I had a date night at one of my favorite restaurants, Catch 54 on Fenwick Island. It sits on Assawoman Bay. He captured this picture from the back deck. Isn’t it spectacular?!?

Catch 54 Sunset

We booked Evan a surfing lesson at the Waving Riding School in Ocean City, MD earlier this month. He had some of the basics down from his lesson with Uncle Shawn and was excited to spend some time with a group of surfers. The instructors were great with the kids. Ev was thrilled to be able to wear a wet suit. Since Evan has been able to get up on a board already, they brought a 10 foot, 9 foot, 8 foot and 7 foot board for him to try. They start the kids on the larger board and work their way down to a smaller one. Ev and his instructor grabbed a few boards and crossed the coastal highway to Ocean City beach to start their lesson.

It was a beautiful morning. The beach was relatively quiet except for all of the young surfers. We were really impressed with how great the instructors were with all of the kids. Evan had a great time and rode dozens of waves in. I was grateful that there was a young photographer capturing pictures of the kids. He sent us a few dozen of Evan. These are our favorites .

There are jellyfish in the ocean and we are all aware of that but towards the end of Ev’s lesson, two surfers pulled this thing out of the water. Yikes!
